Are you a film aficionado going to Cairns soon? Then you can brace yourself for you might be lucky enough to catch the Travelling Film Festival as it comes back to Cairns for a new set of films for everyone’s enjoyment.

Happening October 30 to November 3 at Cairns City Cinemas, the festival will continue its legacy of bringing both Australian and international features, documentaries, and short movies to areas with limited access to theatrical screenings.

Established by David Stratton in 1974, the festival is Australia’s oldest film festival that aims to nurture the regional centres with the best of world cinema. It makes it a point that all its features would inspire debate, community involvement, and collaboration.

Aside from movie screenings, the travelling film festival also brings film industry experts to regional Australia for workshop programs. It also opens the floor for a forum between regional audiences, local film makers, and the whole of Australia’s film industry.

To make sure every festival can cater to every audience of a particular regional centre, organisers consult the place’s local film society. As much as possible, the year’s entry is chosen from the previous year’s Sydney Film Festival with considerations of style, mood, and the where the film was made.

Aside from Cairns, the travelling film festival also go to Dubbo, Grafton, Huskisson, Nambucca Heads, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Wollongong, Yamba, Bundaberg, Charters Towers, Mackay, Toowomba, Townsville, Alice Springs, Darwin, and Katherine.

For tickets and more information about the festival please visit Sydney Film Festival’s website.
