The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) is one of the most highly-anticipated events taking place this winter in Cairns. Celebrate and experience colourful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture over four days at this lively cultural art fair, which will be offering a brand new program this 2018 with lots to enjoy for people of all backgrounds.

The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair was founded by the Queensland Government and enjoyed its first ever event in 2014. Ever since its inception, the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair has enjoyed a collective attendance of almost 200,000 visitors from all over the world, and has been dedicated to strengthening and celebrating Australian heritage and culture, showcasing Queensland’s most prominent indigenous artists, and promoting cultural exchange and economic opportunity for locals as well as visitors.

The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair is the perfect opportunity for locals and visitors in Queensland to discover Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture, heritage, and history. The jam-packed program offers something for everyone: cultural entertainment, market stalls, a fantastic spread of regional food, and lots more.

At the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair this 2018 enjoy a brand new program which will take place over four days. The Opening Night Party will kick off the Art Fair with a colourful spectacle under the stars, featuring the presentation of the CIAF Art Awards followed by an evening of entertainment on the outdoor stage with performances from Miriki Performing Arts, Northern POMO Tribe, and Electric Fields. Over the following three days the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair will feature a number of special performances, art markets, exhibitions, children’s activities, and workshops. These include exclusive exhibit Pride in Authority, film screenings with Pitcha’s After Dark, market stalls at the Art Fair and Art Market, special artist talks with Artist Talks and CIAF Conversations, children’s activities with Gungun Warruwarru, the vibrant two-day Fashion Performance, and lots more. The event will conclude with an epic Closing Ceremony, which will feature stunning performances from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance troupes.
